What does it mean to be a board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in San Diego?
What separates a Facial Plastic Surgeon from other specialties is focus and specialization.
In order to become a Board-Certified Fellowship Trained Facial Plastic Surgeon, a surgeon must first complete an Internship in General Surgery, followed by a 5-year residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. This training allows the surgeon to gain an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and surgical treatment of the face, eyes, and neck.
During this training, a significant portion of the training is spent on plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures of this region. Completion of this residency provides the surgeon board eligibility by the American Board of Medical Subspecialties (ABMS) to practice Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery. The individual must then pass rigorous written and oral board examinations. Those who want to focus exclusively on facial plastic surgery will then go on to complete a Fellowship sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in Advanced Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
This highly competitive and sought-after Fellowship is offered to only 45 individuals per year. Following completion of the Fellowship, the surgeon must once again pass rigorous written and oral examinations. Finally, they must submit a surgical log demonstrating that they have successfully completed 100 consecutive facial plastic surgery cases in a 2 year period. The surgeon then becomes Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Amir M Karam MD, located in San Diego is Board Certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and The American Board of Medical Subspecialties to practice Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery. Dr. Karam limits his entire practice to the narrow field of cosmetic and reconstructive Facial Plastic Surgery.
His extensive background in Facial and Nasal Surgery and subspecialty training in Facial Plastic Surgery makes him uniquely qualified to treat any Cosmetic and Reconstructive needs of the Face, Neck, and Eyes.
This experience and knowledge of the face and its underlying structures translates to achieving consistent, natural, and beautiful results. This is why you should “Trust your face to a Facial Plastic Surgeon, and Trust your face to Dr. Amir M. Karam.”
