What is it?

VOLUMA is an injectable filler, similar to Juvéderm Ultra, that fills in fine lines and wrinkles. In fact, JuvédermVoluma XC was created by Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox. VOLUMA is used on the apex, hollow, and apple of cheeks to improve the appearance of loose skin by adding structure.

VOLUMA is injected into the face to restore facial volume and replenish lost fat stores that cause parts of our face to sag and fall. VOLUMA is not a dermal filler that is injected superficially but is instead injected into the deeper subcutaneous layers and fat pads of the skin thus restoring volume and enhancing the face.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment?

One week prior to your procedure be sure to avoid the following:

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) - These would be items like ibuprofen and naproxen.
Acetylsalicylic Acid (ASA) - These would be meds that are used to treat pain, fever, arthritis, and inflammation. It may also be used to reduce the risk of a heart attack.
Herbal vitamins and supplements - Especially those that thin the blood, such as Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, Feverfew, Ginseng, Red Clover, Fish oil, and garlic supplements.
Plan in case bruising occurs to avoid any important events.

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

Based on the patient’s individualized treatment plan, our San Diego Juvederm procedure takes 15-20 minutes on average. We recommend that patients couple VOLUMA treatment with other skin-enhancing procedures like Botox & Juvéderm injections to achieve full facial rejuvenation. The most dramatic results are seen in patients with Botox and VOLUMA procedures because these fillers target different facial areas and types of wrinkles. Is there Pain Associated with Treatment? What are the Side Effects?

Treatment is performed by injecting VOLUMA into sunken cheek areas. This process may cause slight discomfort. In order to make the process as painless as possible, VOLUMA contains a local anesthetic.

After the procedure, an ice pack is applied and some patients may experience mild bruising, tenderness, redness, firmness, and swelling. Patients who do experience bruising can expect to be back to normal in about a week.

Down Time

Our San Diego Juvederm VOLUMA requires no downtime. Unlike other more invasive treatments that require days and weeks of downtime, VOLUMA patients can expect to return to normal functions right after treatment. However, some actions should be avoided for 24 hours including exposure to direct sunlight and heat, performing exercise, and consuming alcohol.
