As a first step, Dr. Karam may perform neck liposuction to remove an excess of fatty tissue. He will then perform a platysmaplasty to tighten the underlying muscles of the neck and improve its overall structure. Finally, he will redrape the skin for a sleeker, more streamlined appearance.
For a neck lift, Dr. Karam will create his incision hidden within the sideburn area of the scalp, or alternatively will create an incision hidden beneath the chin. In all cases, Dr. Karam goes to great lengths to make sure your scarring is well camouflaged.
After your treatment is over, Dr. Karam will supply drainage tubes to excise any excess fluids, and will also apply a light dressing to reduce swelling. This bandage will be worn for about 5-7 days.
For any pain or discomfort, Dr. Karam will prescribe medications. It’s normal to expect swelling, bruising, tenderness and redness for a few weeks after a surgery. Dr. Karam suggests that you sleep with your head slightly elevate, and that you get plenty of sleep to aid in your recuperation.
After about two weeks, you will be able to resume all your normal activities, including exercise, driving and working.
